Token Metrics Daily Pulse - 2026-10-20
Gains are capped to hold starting losses to 10 percent. Details inside.

Lead Change

BlackRock filed a new Bitcoin fund. Upside capped. Downside floored at 10%.

Why it matters: Think travel insurance for Bitcoin. You pay with your upside to put a floor under the drop. It fits buyers who want in but flinch at 29% drawdowns. If this catches on, demand shifts from raw exposure to managed exposure.

Ethereum price structure chart

Ethereum trailed the majors at -5% this week.

Ethereum is trading near $2.4k, and the broader structure is still leaning lower. It fell 5.0% over the last 7 days. From here, the first support sits about 6% below price and the first resistance about 11% above. Momentum has cooled, so price may need to build a base before the next clean push.

5 Changes That Matter

BlackRock filed for a new Bitcoin fund that caps gains to hold starting losses to about 10% using options on IBIT.

1 BlackRock filed for a new Bitcoin fund that caps gains to hold starting losses to about 10% using options on IBIT.

If the filing moves toward SEC approval, that would support access for cautious buyers. The filing does not guarantee approval.

French lawmakers voted to tax crypto to stablecoin swaps at 31% starting in January 2027, ending a deferral for compliant stablecoins.

2 French lawmakers voted to tax crypto to stablecoin swaps at 31% starting in January 2027, ending a deferral for compliant stablecoins.

Stablecoins were the parking lot where traders could wait without triggering tax. France just put a meter on it. For active traders in France, every hop to safety now counts like a sale. That favors buy and hold over hop in and out.

If the measure clears final passage for January 2027, that would support less stablecoin parking in France. Rejection would keep the old deferral in place.

BlackRock IBIT drew about $665M in a day, the biggest haul since last October, while Bitcoin sat near $81k.

3 BlackRock IBIT drew about $665M in a day, the biggest haul since last October, while Bitcoin sat near $81k.

Big buying met a down price action. That is like filling a bucket with a hole in it. U.S. funds saw the largest daily inflow in nearly a month yet price still fell about 1%. Stocks wobbled on the AI selloff, and crypto followed. Flows tell us cash arrived. Price tells us sellers were bigger.

If daily inflows run for 3 straight days, that would support real demand returning. If inflows fade, treat Monday as a one-day blip.

Mt. Gox pushed its repayment deadline to 2027 with about $2.8B in Bitcoin still to hand out.

4 Mt. Gox pushed its repayment deadline to 2027 with about $2.8B in Bitcoin still to hand out.

The ghost supply keeps getting rescheduled. Creditors wait, the market waits. Delay removes near-term selling pressure but keeps the ceiling in place. It is a can kicked one more year down the road.

If trustee payouts resume before the 2027 deadline, that would put new supply back in focus. Continued delay alone does not remove the overhang.

More than 6B XRP hit exchanges in 30 days to Oct. 19, the most since March, as whales moved to the sidelines.

5 More than 6B XRP hit exchanges in 30 days to Oct. 19, the most since March, as whales moved to the sidelines.

Coins go to exchanges for one reason: optionality to sell. Seven-month highs in inflows do not guarantee dumping, but intent has shifted. When big wallets park on the sidelines, depth thins and dips get sharper.

If exchange balances keep climbing, that would support near-term selling pressure for XRP. If inflows reverse, the warning fades.

Risk Map

01 Greed lingers in a downtrend

Fear and Greed reads 55 for Greed. Our Market Indicator reads bearish (Token Metrics trend/flow signal), and Bitcoin sits about 29% below its 1-year high. That mix invites dip buying into weakness.

02 Liquidity is thinning under the surface

Stablecoin supply slipped less than 1% on the week. L2 value locked fell about 4%, with Starknet and X Layer down double digits. Less cash on the rails means shocks travel faster.

VIEW Bottom line

The read: big fund buying is back but price still sags because stocks are shaky and cash on crypto rails is flat. That flips if fund inflows run 3 days straight and Bitcoin reclaims $82k on rising volume.

Catalysts (Next 7 Days)

📅 Kinetiq Elysium L2 mainnet Nov 9

Hyperliquid-aligned L2 launch tests demand for new trading rails. A clean launch supports activity on related venues.

📅 Treasury GENIUS Act stablecoin rules feedback Rolling - next 7 days

Blockchain Association asked Treasury to narrow who can sell stablecoins and clarify DeFi rules. Clearer language decides which venues can distribute dollars onchain.

📅 Bitcoin downside hedging into equity weakness Rolling - next 7 days

Options traders sought downside protection as Asian chip stocks fell. More hedging pressure would confirm risk-off spillover into crypto.

What to Watch Next

Watch whether BlackRock-style inflows string together. Also watch whether France's 31% stablecoin tax advances. That combo decides if cautious money returns or keeps sitting out.
